TRIPLE YOUR FUN • THREE TASTE TREATS TODAY

I was in a hurry on my way to have lunch with the man that took my place after I retired. I was meeting him at Hoffman's Bistro and Bakery in downtown Santa Cruz. I live pretty close so I kinda (I do) play departures on the edge of punctuality. Do you ever do that?
As you may notice as you scroll down my blog, I have started working with Hipstamatic imagery. These "black-eyed susans" growing through my fence from next door have been a pleasure to look at for a while now and I just had to stop long enough to take a pic. Here it is:

I arrived on time and had a great lunch and interesting conversation that convinced me once again that I am very happy to not be working.

While I was eating lunch I noticed the couple in the photo below come in and sit in a booth to have some time together over lunch. They were both in chairs. I reflected to the man I was with about how great it is that today, people with physical challenges that would have and did keep people from being able to do many of the things they wanted to do, were able to do them now. Our laws provided by the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) make so much more possible than ever before and there is so much more to be done. I asked for permission to take their photo. Here it is:

As I was leaving the woman in the photo below approached me and asked if I could spare some change. I was so taken aback by her appearance that I immediately reached into my pocket and pulled out a couple of dollars and gave them to her. Downtown Santa Cruz has a lot of very unusual looking people walking around. Sometimes it looks like a parade so this lady's appearance wasn't really all that unusual. I was just surprised by her because I didn't see her coming.

If you drill a little deeper into this blog you will find another photo of a rather unusual looking man that I photographed. I did it with his permission and when you read my account it explains that I have been struggling with the issue of asking for permission to photograph people and/or walking right up to someone/thing that makes me conspicuous and uncomfortable. So I took this opportunity to once again ask for permission, as I did for the photo above and it was granted.

I also took a Hipstamatic photo as well.

I had seen this lady before from a distance on a few occasions and smiled to myself in appreciation of her self-expression and the atmosphere/culture of Santa Cruz that makes it possible for people to be able to display themselves as their creativity. There are some that dress in strange manners and I suspect they may have some mental health issues. No matter what, during the day, in downtown Santa Cruz, it is safe to appear pretty much any way you want. I'm glad I live here.

Nice aperture, Ray...I don't think I've ever said that to a man before.

Thank you Bob. If there's anyone that knows about Apertures, it's you.
