BODIE, CALIFORNIA

I thought I'd try my hand at monochrome work. This is a photo of the famous Bodie Mine and Schoolhouse. Bodie is located in the Eastern Sierra Mountains of Northern California. At an altitude of around 8,000 feet it was a difficult place to live. Gold was discovered in the ground so it didn't matter how bad the conditions were. Thousands of mostly men came here just after gold was discovered in 1859 making Bodie the second largest city in California after San Francisco. There is a great Bodie website that explains a lot about the wild times and ultimate downfall of this most picturesque town. If you are even close to the area of Bridgeport along Highway 295 be sure and visit the park.
