I have always been interested in lichen. It appears in so many places and comes in to many vibrant colors. This photo is of a short fence that surrounds a huge old oak tree on a ranch in a canyon near Gilroy, CA. A friend of mine and I were out looking for things to photograph. 
Here is a large section of rock with a lot of lichen on it in the White Mountains that really reflects the late afternoon colors of sunset.
