THE LARGEST CRANES IN THE WORLD

This is one of several cranes located at the Port of Oakland, CA. They are the largest of their kind in the world. In addition to being the largest they are also the fastest, able to load and unload a 73-ton container every two minutes. They are 25 feet taller than the next largest cranes and can accomodate extra-wide superfreighters. To make sure the cranes would be able to pass beneath the Golden Gate and San Francisco Bay Bridges a representative from the Port of Oakland went to Shanghai and measured them himself...with a steel measuring tape!

According to the tale of the tape, the tops of the cranes...with their booms lowered...will sit precisely 223.75 feet above water level, and the clearance at low tide is 225.6 feet! They look like huge white horses.
